Q What makes the Kizzie Baldwin series special?
A A lot of things, but mainly this series reflects the types of stuff I like to read. When I’m perusing the best sellers lists, I tend to reach for thrillers and erotic romances but find that one usually lacks what I want from the other — the thriller has no sex or real love story to speak of, and the erotica and romance have no fast-paced, action and adventure-style plot.
The Kizzie Baldwin series solves that problem, blending the genres and fully fleshing out the different plot lines. There’s a kickass, snarky lead female in Kizzie —seriously, if James Bond were a woman, he’d be Kizzie Baldwin— and her sexy, rich, alpha male love interest Xander. The domination and submission aspect of the novels ramps things up since D/s is a relationship that requires a great deal of trust, but with Kizzie being a secret agent, and Xander being a criminal, trust isn’t something either has a ton of (any of?).
All in all, the Kizzie Baldwin series is designed to keep you up long after your bedtime, flipping pages or swiping over your screen because you have to know what happens next!
Q Why the CIA?
A There’s a lot of imaginative latitude when your main character works for a covert group inside a government agency. Plus, it’s a world that’s already mired in confusion and conspiracy and dark, shadowy deeds, which plays well for all the characters and events that take place.
Q Do I have to read the books in order?
A YES. I repeat, YES they have to be read in order. When Kizzie and Xander first came to me, they were supposed to be a ten thousand-word short story for an anthology. But these two just wouldn’t go away. So, to get their story told, I had to leave that first one (Shaken & Stirred) as a ‘To Be Continued’, setting the tone for the rest of the books. That said, the books don’t just snip off at a random location, and each story does solve its primary objective.

The first thing you need to know about this story is that it is not complete, it is a free teaser for the book Wallbanger which just recently came out. I guess since I read the other reviews warning that this is not a complete novella, I knew what to expect and as such will review what was written.
The heroine, Kizzie Baldwin, is a female James Bond. She works undercover as a spy and her assignment is to infiltrate a BDSM party on the yacht of the villain and Dom Xander Duquesne, and retrieve something called 3-19. From the moment she sets foot on the yacht however, Xander is on to her and what she after. His way of punishing her when he caught her was inventive, hot and erotic.
Later on, Xander convinces her that what she has been led to believe may not be true, and the only way to learn the truth and to find out who the real threat is, is to switch sides and join him. Her decision to trust him (at least to the extent that she joins him to find out what he knows) is where this part of the story ends. A real cliffhanger.
I found this story to be well written, funny, thoroughly entertaining and gripping. I read the entire thing in one sitting because it held my interest that much and I've been waiting for 3 weeks to read the conclusion. Shaken and Stirred is the first thing I've read by this author, had frankly never heard of her before but she was recommended to me based on my reading history. One of the few times the software has gotten that right.
I would highly recommend, but obviously with the caveat that the novella is not complete.
When I got the free book I enjoyed it up to the last page when I discovered it didn't end and was going to have a continuation of the story in book 2. The 2nd book, Wallbanger, was available and since it was listed as book 2 of 2 I figured it would be the end of the story and the short free one was the lead in for the main book. Wrong. This isn't a series that has a nice wrap up at the end of each book then the characters start a new adventure in the next book. This is a serial that has the characters in the same storyline for each book. I don't know how many books are planned in the Kizzie Baldwin set as I haven't been able to locate that information.
One other thing that should be noted. This is erotica and heavy on the BDSM. If that bothers you don't read the book. Wallbanger has a lot of sadism in it that is beyond BDSM It is noted in the book this is not what the BDSM lifesyle is about. This may not appeal to everyone.
I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because it didn't let you know up front that this is a continuation set of books and none are stand alone. The content is good, writing well done, and it kept me interested to see how it was going to play out. The story line, action, and fight scenes were interesting. Most likely I will get book 3 when it comes out.
The problem with a freebie short is sometimes you get what you paid for. Saying this, did I like it? Why yes I did. I enjoyed the overall. I found it to be a really quick read but not necessarily what I expected. I didn't really expect a whole lot considering it was so short and a freebie but I have to say regardless of price for something they should let you know that the story is a lead in to another book. We've all read series before where we had lead ins to the next volume but I don't know that was the purpose of this entire short story. I actually liked it for the most part but I was less than pleased with the ending.
Being a quickie we are thrown into the story fast which more often than not works for me. This is my escape so I don't worry myself about the realism of how fast bonds and relationships are formed.
I found the main characters to be likable and enjoyed the salting of humor. Of course there are the main characters, secret agent Kizzie and a sexy bad guy in Xander but I was really interested in X's cohort Phil Marchande. There's a story in his story somewhere and I'm hoping this comes to light in the future.
I was hoping for more sex scenes either at the party or in private but it was enough to titillate me and leave me wanting more which I believe is what this story was all about. There were 2 things I didn't care much for and that was to overdone references to James Bond. The first time was cute, the second smirkable but after that it became annoying to me. The second was the way this ended. I was not aware when I acquired the story that it was a lead in for a series. I wish it was divulged. I would have read it anyway but at least I would have been prepared for the cliffhanger ending. When I read "to be continued" I almost flipped I was so ticked. Back to my usual of having to hunt out the rest of the series so I can see how the hell this wraps up. I did say I was enjoying it!
